Sony Recall Faulty Notebook Batteries

Sony-made batteries are being recalled after 40 global incidents of overheating for Dell, Toshiba and Hewlett-Packard notebooks model. Sony Corporation support the voluntary worldwide recalls which expected to involve around 100,000 notebooks with 2.15Ah battery packs.

The recall involves only notebook computers using 2.15Ah lithium-ion cells based on Sony statement on Sony Website www.sony-asia.com

Its said that the incident incidents involved smoke and/or flames but there were four cases involving small burns and 21 resulting in minor property damage, according to Japanese manufacturer.

Sony said its Vaio notebook computers use different battery types so they are not part of the recall.

Hewlett-Packard has confirmed a free replacement programme for the specified battery pack at its centres. Malaysian customers should go to its website www.hp.com/support/batteryreplacement for more details. Or, they can call HP Service and Support at 1-800-88-4848.

The affected models include HP’s Compaq and Pavillion notebooks. A detailed list is available at the site.

Dell customers can check if they are having the affected models by surfing to www.dellbatteryprogram.com.

Dell said it will replace any affected batteries at no charge. The models that may be affected include its Latitude and Inspiron models. (Source: The Star)

Notebook is one of the expensive thing so normally we won't buy notebook just for fun or because we like how that notebook look alike. Nowadays, there is many kind of notebook brand and come up with attractive design. So, i suggest a few thing to be think and consider to make sure you didn't waste your money for such an expensive thing like notebook only because of the attractive design and the offer.
Firstly, we must know why we want to buy the notebook. Is it for personal purpose such for doing assignment if you are student or for business purpose. Student always use laptop for doing their assignment and also for entertainment. For those who like to play games or download dramas (such Korean dramas) in their laptop, high capacity notebook hard disk with good lighting is good for you. And for those who totally doing assignment using their notebooks, Acer Aspire One is just okay with you. This because, Acer Aspire One is come up with low capacity hard disk, light, cute and the price is really cheap.
Beside that, the price is one of the factor. Buy notebook with your affordable price and below your budget. Don't spend too much on your new notebook because remember there is always have a maintenance cost. Laptop sometime might have a problem and you need to send it for service. Yes right, you have a warranty. But, me myself already faced this problem before that the service center didn't not cover the problem even the problem happen to the hardware. At last, i repaired it using my money and the warranty is void. Hopefully, you are lucky and didn't face the same situation like me. Otherwise, beside laptop you might need to buy the printer if the notebook seller didn't include it as a gift. Thus, remember to include on your budget the printer and maintenance cost.
Then, you must know the specification of the notebook. Each computer have different function. For example some computer may have 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM, webcam, dvd and CD-RW Combo. This specification you need to know because the price always depend on the notebook specification. The more function of your notebook, the higher the price.
Brand name also need to be consider. Some brand like Apple, Dell and Compaq are surely very good notebook because they try to maintain their strong brand name in the market. But for some other new brand sometime might have a problem especially with the hardware.
Lastly, i think the seller is also important. Find the seller that offer attractive price, valuable gift such mouse, printer, thumb drive and service after purchase. Normally at PC or Computer Fair there are many seller there and you can choose on your own the best seller.

I like to buy thing online especially computer part and accessories. Lately, I bought notebook adapter online. The quality is good and the price is very reasonable compare if I buy in the shop. Shopping online no need to go to the shop and I can survey the price from one seller to one seller.
